In Tokyo, A 43-year-old Japanese woman whose sudden divorce in a virtual game world made her so angry that she killed her online husband’s digital persona has been arrested on suspicion of hacking.

The woman, who is jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game “Maple Story” to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

“I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry,” the official quoted her as telling investigators and admitting the allegations.

The woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world, the official said.

She has not yet been formally charged, but if convicted could face a prison term of up to five years or a fine up to $5,000.

Players in “Maple Story” raise and manipulate digital images called “avatars” that represent themselves, while engaging in relationships, social activities and fighting against monsters and other obstacles.

The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married, and killed the character. The man complained to police when he discovered that his beloved online avatar was dead.

What a IT and Virtual world, hmm….

People spending this much amount of time, energy, and dedication to virtual worlds, wherein they develop online relationships and get affected to extremes, should get psychiatric help.

    This isn’t just normal anymore.

~This is just the way they take out the virtual things in wrong and abnormal way and ruining their lives. We are the perfect example of making a great virtual relationshiop before entering into the real world, Alhumdulillah:)

i too read it n news days back & it depends on one’s mentality on hw they deal wid online world & most of them are gettin addict in it…

~There are only two possibilities, either taking too much serious or taking too easy the virtual relationship.

This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever read. He called the police cuz his digital image was dead? I mean sure she hacked his PC (which is criminal) but is that why he called the cops? And did he first call the virtual cops? Sorry, this is just bizzare. And yes Nadia has a good point, but then these people are better off in their basement, than milling about amongst us 😛

~Only thing I can say that he is psychologically ill.

House in Paradise!

Narrated AbuUmamah: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for a man who avoids quarrelling even if he were in the right, a house in the middle of Paradise for a man who avoids lying even if he were joking, and a house in the upper part of Paradise for a man who made his character good.(Sunan Abu Dawood,Book 41, Number 4782)
